Costa Rica
My life changed three years ago after learning about the world’s biodiversity hotspots at a lecture in Louisville with Dr. E.O. Wilson. I left the U.S. and came to Costa Rica on January 6, 2008, to work with Proyecto Campanario, a remote biological field research station in the Osa Peninsula. Costa Rica is in the southern mesoamerica hotspot, which is the third largest hotspot. Osa is a key conservation target within mesoamerica. There is much work to be done here as rainforest depletion accelerates each day due to tourism and chemical-laden monoculture plantations for palm oil, bananas and pineapples. Each day more wildlife get squeezed out for human “need.” It’s a travesty, and it devastates me to the very core of my soul. I came to Osa to try to make a difference in whatever way I can through the use of my gifts: media and communication.
